Book Suggestions?

I'm scheduled to host my book club in January. I'm looking for good books. Have you read any good books lately that I should consider for our January book club? We're reading Words Without Songs for December. I'm not much into historical pieces; other than that I'm pretty open to suggestions.

So, what good books have you read lately and what made them good?

Big Bird is Yellow, and Mrs. Wishy Washy are the latest I have read--very enlightening :-)

What Shall We Do with the Boo Hoo Baby is a light read. Seriously, I'm on the freshman book selection committee at BSC. I have to read the five final selections in order to make a decision. The first two I'm reading are:

The Six Questions of Socrates: http://www.amazon.com/Six-Questions-Socrates-Modern-Day-Philosophy/dp/0393326799/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1196630556&sr=1-16.

Mountains Beyond Mountains: http://www.amazon.com/Mountains-Beyond-Quest-Farmer-Would/dp/0812973011/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1196630634&sr=1-1

I am in love with the shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella, but it will probably be too lite a read for a book group. It's like a chic flick in book form.
